Talon Technology™

IT STARTED WITH AN IDEA

Dr. Dale G. Bramlet, a practicing orthopedic surgeon in St. Petersburg, FL, grew tired of the shortcomings he saw in other compression hip screw systems. He envisioned a lag screw that allowed him to fully reduce the fracture, on the table, without the fear of stripping the threads. This product would provide the patient with an improved functional outcome and a quicker return to pre-fracture status.

Fundamental to its use, Talon Technology™ must be FULLY RETRACTABLE! Based upon this requirement every system contains the instruments and instructions required to retract the talons and remove the device.

LABORATORY PROOF
During its development, the Talon™ CHS proved itself to be a hip pin unlike all of the others. Biomechanical studies performed at the University of Florida showed that the Talon™ CHS provided twice (2X) the compression and three times (3X) more rotational resistance than a non-talon system.

During the biomechanical studies 100% of the bent and twisted talons were fully retracted without breaking.

CLINICAL PROOF
Currently over 3000 Talon™ CHS and Talon™ PF Nail’s have been implanted by surgeons across the United States. Most surgeons are amazed that "two-finger tight" no longer applies when they compress the fracture by tightening the compression screw. Even more surgeons are amazed that they can achieve rigid internal fixation, with added compression across the fracture, without relying on the patient to weight bear. Fear of the lag screw "stripping" the threads during compression is no longer a concern when using a Talon™ lag screw; even in osteoporotic bone!

Clinically, the Talon™ CHS has been successfully removed; even upto 15 months after it was implanted.

WORKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE!
ODi continues to incorporate Talon Technology™ into a wide variety of orthopedic devices through the direction of its Surgeon Advisory Board. Members of this Board represent the best and brightest in their respective areas of practice.

The extent of this partnership is that ODi has thirteen (13) United States patents issued and four (4) United States patents pending . Additionally, this patent portfolio includes intellectual property, issued and pending, on an international basis.
