Talon™ Proximal Femoral Nail System
The “T-Nail™”

The T-Nail seeks to reduce complications by allowing the surgeon to fully compress the fracture while the patient is on the table, instead of relying upon variables beyond the surgeon's control which occur after the operation. The talons have been shown to provide twice the compression and a three-fold increase in rotational stability over non-talon lag screws. The clinical benefits, therefore, are a direct result of the Talon™ CHS providing the surgeon with the needed tools to achieve better purchase in the proximal fragment.

The T-Nail is designed to deploy its talons into the region where good cortical bone most often exists: the calcar femorale. [A review of even the most osteoporotic femurs shows increased density at the calcar femorale.] In addition, watching deployment of the talons under radiography and feeling the resistance provides the surgeon with a unique feedback mechanism as to the quality of the bone.

The “T-nail™” allows the use of the same lag screw, compression screw and cortical screw as the Talon™ CHS. This provides the hospital the ability to reduce inventory across systems while providing the surgeon with a choice of treatment options.

ODi’s unique method of installing the lag screw and sleeve allows the surgeon to quickly place the implants in one easy step. The result is confidence that the implants are in their proper position without increasing OR time.

A proprietary, and patented, locking mechanism allows the surgeon to “lock” the sleeve and lag screw from rotation, while allowing sliding. This is done without the a set screw, which is common to Hip Fracture Systems other systems. As such the surgeon can be assured the construct is properly locked before the guide arm is removed.

Just four (4) trays, two instrument trays and two implant trays, contain the entire Talon™ PF Nail system! The T-Nail™ was designed to provide full visualization of the implants and instrumentation to the surgeon and OR staff. This way you see exactly what has been used during surgery.

The talon retraction instrumentation is included in every instrument set! This eliminates the need to store or sterilize a third set of instruments should explanation of the system be required.
